Water Mist Inspection EN 14972-1

Water Mist inspection every five years

Our laboratory is able to support the inspection every 5 years of water mist nozzles in accordance with EN 14972, section 9.2.7.2. The standard requires that at least two nozzles per section be removed from various parts of the system. The removed nozzles must be tested as follows according to EN 12259-1:

– function;

– k-factor;

– operating temperature;

– thermal response.

Our laboratory, experienced in printhead issues, will assist operators in selecting the tests and resolving critical problems, with particular attention to the sampling phase.

1.How many nozzles need to be tested?

The standard requires 2 nozzles per section. However, for the full execution of the tests required by UNI EN 12259-1, 3 nozzles are necessary, since three tests are destructive. 

  • functional test

  • operating temperature test

  • thermal response test.

If the minimum requirement of 2 nozzles is maintained, it should be noted that: 

The functional test has historically been the one that most frequently detected device failures (experimental experience on sprinkler heads). 

According to our laboratory experience, the activation temperature test has proven to be the most conservative in terms of safety.
